Donald Trump shocked the world on November 8, 2016, to win the Presidential election. After a close race, Donald Trump beat Hillary Clinton going past the necessary 270 electoral votes that he needed to win the election.

However, many people aren’t happy with this and they are already trying to get Trump out of office before his presidency has even begun. An online petition is going around asking the electoral college to elect Hillary Clinton as president, however, it is very unlikely that this will happen.

The Republican President elect himself said a few years ago in a tweet that he believes the electoral college is undemocratic, taking to twitter to say,“The phony electoral college made a laughing stock out of our nation. The loser won!” However, Trump has changed his attitude about the electoral college, he recently said on twitter, “The Electoral College is actually genius in that it brings all states, including the smaller ones, into play. Campaigning is much different!” Despite winning the electoral college, Trump lost the popular vote to Hillary Clinton by twenty thousand votes.

Donald Trump addressed his supporters early in the morning saying, “Now it’s time for America to bind the wounds of division; we have to get together. To all Republicans and Democrats and independents across this nation, I say it is time for us to come together as one united people.” Meanwhile, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton conceded to her supporters saying, “Last night, I congratulated Donald Trump and offered to work with him on behalf of our country. I hope that he will be a successful president for all Americans. This is not the outcome we wanted or we worked so hard for, and I’m sorry that we did not win this election for the values we share and the vision we hold for our country.”

It will be interesting to see the effect that President elect Donald Trump has on the country. Trump will be sworn in as president of the United States on January 20, 2017.
