Donald Trump Controversy Begins Before He Is Sworn In

President elect Donald Trump has recently announced some key members of his cabinet as President of the United States, and for some of the members, there is a lot of controversy. Donald Trump announced recently that his chief strategist would be Steve Bannon, executive chair of Breitbart news which has been called an alt-right media site and has been said to have close ties with white nationalism. There has been a lot of backlash for this announcement. In August 2016, Bannon was appointed chief executive of Trump’s presidential campaign and rumors spread about him being a white supremacist. Bannon’s ex-wife said in court that he refused to send his daughter to a school in Los Angeles “due to the number of jews” that attended the school. Bannon has denied these accusations however, but Breitbart ran headlines calling neoconservative William Kristol, who refused to support Donald Trump, a “renegade jew.” Bannon will be stepping down from his role as executive chair if the supreme court approves his cabinet position.

Donald Trump has also said that he would like retired neurosurgeon and former rival republican presidential candidate Ben Carson to be Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. President elect Trump tweeted “I am seriously considering Ben Carson as the head of HUD I’ve gotten to know him well he’s a greatly talented person who loves people!” The day after Trump tweeted this, Carson hinted on Facebook he might accept the position saying, “Winning the presidential election was only the first step for those who love traditional America and do not wish to fundamentally change it. Now the hard work begins of restoring the values that made us great. We must bring back the compassion and the unity that empowers us and banish the divisiveness that weakens us. After serious discussions with the Trump transition team, I feel that I can make a significant contribution particularly to making our inner cities great for everyone. We have much work to do in strengthening every aspect of our nation and ensuring that both our physical infrastructure and our spiritual infrastructure is solid. An announcement is forthcoming about my role in helping to make America great again.” Carson is a former neurosurgeon and has no documented experience in housing development, it will be interesting to see if he takes the position.
